In week 8 we discussed how what's seen as the international style is the Swiss style coming from Switzerland in the 1950s. It typically followed the theme of asymmetrical organisation, grid, objective photography, sans serif and aligned left or right.
We looked at the different typefaces to come out of this time like the Univers typeface. Which was designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1957 for Deberny & Peignot and is currently owned by Linotype. It is a font that has lots of weights and styles, making it easy to use for lots of different jobs and an alternative to Helvetica which we also talked about in class but Univers is seen as more modern.
We looked at lots of different artist and one that stood out to me was Armin Hofmann who is a Swiss Graphic designer born on 29th of June 1920, he studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Zurich and then became a lithographer in Basel and Bern, eventually opening his own design studio, and became a teacher. It was said that his teaching methods were unorthodox but quickly became the norm after the success he had. I like his work for the use of shape and the clean alignment of the posters.
