Reflection - In this class, we looked at what makes up a good logo, and my takeaway from the class is that it has to be graphically interesting. Graphically - in a very clear and detailed manner. Interesting - holding one’s attention. This is what makes a logo successful, it has to represent your brand, and great logos are completely recognisable as that brand. they have to be distinctive and timeless for that brand.

We completed this task in class to build a logo from our initials and an animal from geometric shapes. I created some different versions and played about with the letters.

Here are the ones I picked to show. I also created two animals one mouse and a cow, I created the really simple mouse and then really started playing around with the shapes to build the cow. Overall I thought this was a really fun task that got you to think about what you were doing.

We are now at the stage where we are really pulling our brand together, and working on our own logos. A logo is part of the visual identity of a brand and represents the brand in an image, there are lots of different types. there is a difference between a logo mark and a word mark, word marks are made up of the brand name and are meant to be readable while being interesting and a logo mark is meant to be a representation of the brand, they can also be made up of the name but generally with other elements added.

The Olympic rings are such a good example of this as they are so recognisable as the rings that are meant to represent the metals and the 5 colours that make up the 5 continents.
