Reflection - This class was looking at all the different styles that make up illustrative from very polished pieces to hand drawn. It's interesting how lots of different tools can be used to create different pieces to create really compelling pieces, I think it's good for designers to be trying new tools to make something new. I have used Figma for over a year now and only this semester started using Illustrator as I knew I was holding myself back by not using a new software.
Some of the names I picked out from the lecture were Olly Moss (Firewatch), Neil Stevens (cola), and Oliver Jeffers (Space project).
Olly Moss is a UK designer, artist, and illustrator, he is most well known for his poster work for movies and the Oscars and Book cover work like Harry Potter. I know the game Firewatch he did some of the art for the world style, this is a very recognisable and very well-known game. I really love the style of it, it's warm, rustic and interesting. I think what is so effective about it is the colour palette as all the colours aren't very vibrant making the game blend together nicely with the game being calming, peaceful, and easy. I find the use of colour interesting in this as all the tones create such an atmosphere that you can feel the environment through the screen.

Neil Stevens is based in St Albans and London, he is an illustrator, image-maker, and graphic artist. He has worked on very large projects with The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, and Coca-Cola. One of my favourite pieces of his is from Dialog Magazine in 2017, I love these illustrations especially the building one as it is so playful, almost interactive with its busyness and the use of colour and shapes in both to build its own world.

Oliver Jeffers from Belfast, Northern Ireland, is a visual artist and author who is very well known for his skills in illustration, painting, drawing, and even sculptures. Some of his most popular books have been translated into over 50 different languages and sold over 14 million copies all over the world. Our Place in Space was a project to show the massive scale of the solar system, as the solar system is so big it was scaled down to 591 million to 1 which then was spread across 10km to show the distance between everything to put it all in perspective. This project was a massive success it was fun, engaging, and so well put together, this would have been a great project without Oliver Jeffers and just Professor Stephen Smartt and the Nerve Centre but he added the character, personality, and level of interest that captured all ages.
