In week 2 we were taught about the ratios that make up good design, the Golden ratio, and the Fibonacci sequence. The Golden ratio has been studied since 300 BC often seen in natural patterns. The Fibonacci sequence was discovered around 1202 by the mathematician Leonardo Bonacci.

‘The golden section is basically a relationship or ratio between two numbers (or objects) wherein the ratio of the smaller number to the larger number is the same as the sum of both numbers.’

‘The Fibonacci sequence is another important proportional model. Closely related to the golden section, this is a mathematical sequence wherein a number is the sum of the two preceding numbers.’

Both are seen in the fundamentals of design, we then created some designs in Figma using the Fibonacci sequence numbers (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89…). I created 3 frames with 2 points on each, 3 frames with 3 lines, and 3 frames with 9 planes.

Afterward, we looked at typography and how the number of the Golden ratio size of font affects the emphasis on certain words, I thought the use of the ratios was really interesting as it’s a great way of creating a balanced sentence while still using different font sizes.

We then created a 10-year plan that then used to create an announcement page of your success, for the descriptions we used chat GTP to create a write-up that we could add in too.

This is a poster I found by Jazzberry Blue online, I think it is a very interesting use of the Golden ratio as you can see how all the different shapes correlate to each other by the sizes it creates a really flowing piece, that could be moved about in multiple different ways and still flow.

Class summary, I think that this was a good lesson that can help designers be able to create better designs quickly if they understand the sequences and follow the rules they will do better.
