Reflection- this talk by Ronan McKinless was really useful and I found myself really considering what he was saying. He has experience in many different design studios and all different types which was why everything he said was so valuable as he has the experience and the knowledge.
One of the things that stood out to me was that he has been in lots of companies and studios, that he has moved with what he felt and that is what we should be doing. Self-reflection is so important as a designer as not listening to what you want will leave you burnt out and unhappy. We also don't have to rush into one area we can switch at any age we can change and grow more.
He talked a lot about who we are is what type of designer we will become, this stood out to me as I am unsure about my future path and he took a lot of pressure off and is getting me to consider everything in a different light.
He talked about the differences between UX and UI at the moment I am more interested in UX but over the summer I am planning on developing myself further and doing lots of self-reflection so I can understand what would be the area that I would thrive in. ‘Form is function’ is something he said during the lecture which I really liked because as designers form is everything and one small change affects the whole brand.
After the talk, Ronan looked at my branding work and gave me feedback. He liked my word mark and the fact I managed to shorten the word and achieve what I wanted to with it, which I was really pleased to hear especially from a designer in the industry. Overall this was a really interesting talk that has helped me really consider what I want out of my career.
