The class contained the basic knowledge and understanding of the history of design, then we were set a research task about our chosen typeface. First, I looked at each different typeface and which I preferred. Some that stood out to me were Bodoni, Helvetica, and Gotham.
Abril Fatface is the typeface that interests me the most which is part of the Abril typeface group family which there are 18 styles in total, the faceface style was released in 2011. Abril Fatface was inspired by the fonts used in the 19th century in Britain and France on posters and was created by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione who are also founders of TypeTogether.
I watched this talk Wilson Miner - When We Build on Vimeo what I have taken from this is that this is the time to open up and explore otherwise we limit ourselves and not allow ourselves to grow. Use the new tools and evolve or the world will move on without you and so will the industry. A quote that is used in this talk is from Marshal McLuhan in his book Understand Media, 1964 ‘We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us’ it teaches us to access everything we can, and it will help us evolve. the talk goes on to talk about how we need to listen to the environment to be a good designer. We can see this in people using AI to take their work to the next step instead of rejecting it.
